ONE FEATURED SELECTION
TODAY'S FEATURED PICK
DODGERS ML
-165TYLER GLASNOW
Glasnow recently returned from an extended IL absence. His workload was a mandatory part of the handicap. He has already demonstrated enough starter length that workload is not a veto for today's selection. Recent starts include seven innings with two hits and one earned run, and another start of six-plus innings.
Season profile entering today: approximately 3.12 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 70 strikeouts and 17 walks. These numbers support the handicap. They do not guarantee today's outcome.
GLASNOW RISK
His most recent outing was not his sharpest. He allowed four runs and acknowledged that his timing did not feel completely right. He is also still relatively early in his return from a long absence. That uncertainty is one reason this is graded B+, not A-.
TYLER PHILLIPS
Phillips has pitched competitively, and his headline ERA is approximately 3.51. The Brain does not view him as a bad pitcher or an automatic mismatch. His starter-specific underlying profile, however, is less impressive than the surface ERA. Los Angeles carries the stronger overall pitching and offensive profile.
OFFENSE VS. STARTER
One of the biggest lessons from previous Power Play losses is that having the better starter does not automatically mean the team scores enough runs. The Dodgers offense was therefore evaluated separately against Phillips. The confirmed top six provides several independent paths to offense: Edman, Freeman, Betts, Muncy, Tucker and Hernández.
CASE AGAINST OUR PICK
Glasnow is still relatively early in his return from an extended absence. His previous outing was not particularly sharp. Phillips has produced several competitive recent starts. Miami has home field. Baseball variance remains substantial. An early Miami lead could force Los Angeles into a bullpen/chasing game.
DEATH SCENARIO
Glasnow's timing issues from his previous outing continue, Miami scores early, Phillips gives the Marlins five competitive innings, and Los Angeles fails to convert enough opportunities against Miami's bullpen. That is a legitimate way this ticket loses.
WHY B+ AND NOT A-
Glasnow's recent injury return, his less-sharp most recent start, Phillips' recent competitiveness, Miami home field and normal baseball variance remain real risks. The Brain sees an edge. The Brain does not have certainty.
DESTROY THE PICK
The goal is not to find a reason to bet Los Angeles. The goal is to find every reason not to. The Dodgers became today's featured selection only after the workload, lineup, market-price and opposing-case reviews failed to destroy the play.
